Botswana Agate Rune Set

Banded stone, from a long way off.

The Norse were traders as much as raiders. Their ships went down the rivers of the east to Kiev and Constantinople and came home loaded with silver, silk, and beads — and the women of Birka and Hedeby wore strings of glass and carnelian beads that had traveled thousands of miles to get there. Carnelian and agate are close cousins, both forms of the same stone, chalcedony.

Botswana agate carries that same far-traveled feel: soft bands of grey, pink, peach, and cream layered through the stone, every piece patterned differently. This set puts all twenty-four Elder Futhark runes on Botswana agate — warmer and gentler-looking than obsidian, with a quiet weight in the hand.
