Frigg went to everything. Every plant, every animal, every stone, every metal, every disease, every poison — she extracted the oath from all of it. Nothing would harm her son. The world agreed unanimously. Baldr became invincible and the gods made a game of throwing things at him because nothing could touch him and it was genuinely funny until it wasn't.

Loki noticed the mistletoe. Small. Overlooked. Too young, Frigg had thought, to bother with. Too insignificant to matter.
