Birch Yule Log Candle Holder

The Yule log shows up in midwinter folklore all across Europe: a great log brought in, lit on the hearth, and kept burning through the darkest days of the year so the household would make it to the sun's return. Keep the fire going. The light comes back.

Ours are made from birch, the tree of the rune Berkano, the rune of new growth and beginnings. Each Yule log is a birch branch, sawed in half, sealed, and drilled to hold candles, then dressed in pine and berries by hand. Set it on the table, the altar, or the mantel, and keep a little of that old midwinter fire in the house.

Every log is a little different in size, bark, and decoration. Never leave a burning candle unattended, and keep greenery clear of the flame.
