Every reading needs two things: something to speak, and somewhere to speak it. This is both.

The runes. The Black Tongue Rune Set is the darkest set we make. All twenty-four Elder Futhark runes, cast as classic tiles or coffin stones, black as a moonless fjord. We named it Black Tongue for the kind of reading it gives: it doesn't flatter, doesn't hedge, and doesn't tell you what you want to hear. It tells you what's true and lets you deal with it.

The casting plate. A medium black resin Vegvísir, the Icelandic wayfinder. The old manuscript says whoever carries it will never lose their way in storms or bad weather, even when the way is unknown. Here it does double duty: lay it flat as your casting surface and throw the runes right onto it. The stave sits at the center of the reading, a fixed point in the middle of whatever's coming.

How to use it. Set the Vegvísir on your altar, table, or the floor of your tent at faire. Hold your question. Pull one rune for the day, three for what was, what is, and what's coming, or cast the whole handful across the plate and read where they land: runes near the center speak loudest, runes at the edge are what's still taking shape, and anything that falls off the plate can wait for another day.

When you're not reading, the Vegvísir hangs on the wall or holds a spot on the altar, and the runes keep it company.
