Haust Rune Wax Melts

Haust. The old word for fall, and the old word for the work that came with it.

In Old Norse, haust meant autumn, and it is where our word harvest comes from. For the people of the North it was never just a season. It was the race to get everything in before the cold: grain cut and stored, hay stacked, ale brewed, and in Gormánuðr, the slaughter month, the livestock that could not be fed through winter put up for the long dark.

Then, in mid-October, the work stopped. Vetrnætr, the Winter Nights, marked the turn from summer into winter. Families gathered, feasted on the harvest, and made offerings to the álfar and the dísir, the ancestors and guardian spirits who watched over the household. The doors closed against the cold, the fire was built high, and the hall filled with the smell of everything the year had given.

Haust is that hall on that night. Warm fall spice, rich and comforting, the scent of a harvest brought in and a family gathered close before the snow.

A daily rune pull you can smell

Some folks use these in their practice as a daily rune pull. Reach into the pack without looking, draw a tile, and read the rune that came to you. Then drop it in the warmer and let that rune fill the house for the day. New to reading them? Start with how to read runes.
